NIA: Automatic Two-Month Extension for Foreigners Whose Visa Expires During Epidemic Control

China expire but cannot leave the country due to epidemic prevention and control? At today’s Press Conference of the Joint Prevention and Control Mechanism of the State Council, Liu Haitao, head of the border inspection administration department of National Immigration Administration, gave the answer.  "During the period of epidemic prevention and control, foreigners in China can automatically get two months’ extension if their stay permit has expired. During the extension period, they can stay or leave China legally without any other extra formalities."

Liu added, for Chinese and foreigner who need to travel to part take in medical assistance, drug development, academic exchange and other contribution to epidemic prevention and control, the entry/exit administrations across the country will provide expedited handling services 24 hours a day. For foreigners who come to China for exchange and cooperation of epidemic prevention and control or for significant business and scientific research activities may apply for a port visa at the port of entry if they come to China in an emergency and cannot get a visa in advance.
