The State Council Joint Prevention and Control Mechanism: Recovered and discharged patients should observe 14-day quarantine for medical observation

Beijing, April 9 (Reporter: Wang Bingyang) The Joint Prevention and Control Mechanism of the State Council has recently issued the Work Plan for the Return Visit and Re-examination of Discharged Patients with COVID-19 (trial), to realize whole process management of recovered and discharged patients from quarantine and medical observation, return visit and re-examination, health monitoring, to rehabilitation management.

It states that recovered and discharged patients should observe 14-day quarantine for medical observation, during which, they shall take the body temperature and monitor their physical conditions on a daily basis to see whether they have fever, cough, asthma or other respiratory symptoms. They may self-isolate at home or at the government-designated isolation facility. The discharging hospital should arrange a return visit and re-examination plan for the discharged patients for two to four weeks, and the re-examination should focus on the complete blood count, biochemistry, oxygen saturation, and pathogenic detection of the novel coronavirus, with preference given to the more reliable sputum samples. For patients with pneumonia, chest CT imaging should be performed.
