China to Strengthen Capacity Building in Border Crossing Areas to Curb the Spread of COVID-19

Beijing, April 13 (Reporters: Wang Peng, Zhu Chao) At the press conference of the State Council Joint Prevention and Control Mechanism on that day, Wang Bin, discipline inspection and supervision commissioner of China Centers for Disease Prevention and Control under National Health Commission said,  "We are facing a truly grave situation in the northeast as represented by Suifenhe"  and called for more efforts to strengthen the prevention and control abilities of city- and county-level medical institutions in border areas so that they could effectively play the role as the first defense line against the importation of COVID-19 cases. 

Liu Haitao, head of the Border Inspection and Administration Department of National Immigration Administration, said that the NIA is stepping up deployments to minimize non-essential cross-border personnel movements. It bans the entry or exit by third-country travelers from border ports and strictly controls the issuance of entry/exit documents of all sorts in border areas, and restricts non-essential entry/exit for such purposes as sight-seeing, family reunion or friends visiting. The entry/exit ports and passageways are under strict control. It has also increased efforts to raise public awareness of relevant laws and policies in border areas and strengthened law enforcement cooperation with immigration authorities in neighboring countries.
